THE
MYSTERIOUS MR EDWARDS
It was a bright sunny
morning in the village of Wimberley in Texas. Ted Boston was happy and excited
because he had just bought a lovely little restaurant there. He had been
working for the last ten years and now it had been finally paid off. He was determined to make the restaurant a success
despite some strange comments that had been
made by the local residents. One man had said, "I wish you luck. You're
going to need it."
After
the restaurant had been opened for a couple of months business was booming. It
was-busy every night and Ted had quickly built up a reputation for serving good
food. Ted
had changed though. He was no longer a happy man. When his friend Jack asked him
what was wrong he took a deep breath and asked him to sit down. "I don't
know where
to start," he said unhappily.
He
told Jack that there was a strange atmosphere in the place and strange things
had started
to happen in the restaurant from the very first day. Pots and pans would fly
off the
shelves, the radio would turn itself on and the lights would flicker on and
off.
Jack
was amazed, but he knew his friend was a sensible man so he had no reason not
to believe him. "Right," he said. "I think we had better do some
research." Jack went to the library to find out about the
history of the building.
He
hadn't been there long when he came across some old records. They said that the
restaurant
had originally been owned by a man called James Edwards who was so unhappy
that he had had to sell it. The next day Jack passed his information on to Ted.
Ted
decided to do something positive.
The
next time the lights went off without reason Ted said, "Alright, Mr.
Edwards, I know
it's you," and immediately the lights came back on. From that moment on
Ted has opened
the restaurant every day saying, "Good morning, Mr. Edwards," and
closed it saying,
"Good night, Mr. Edwards". He hasn't had any more problems and he is
happy because
now there is a pleasant atmosphere there all the time.
